Harris vs Kristof

Sam Harris and Nick Kristof have a little back and forth via twitter.  It started after Kristof criticized “secular liberals” in his New York Times column.

If secular liberals can give up some of their snootiness, and if evangelicals can retire some of their sanctimony, then we all might succeed together in making greater progress against common enemies of humanity, like illiteracy, human trafficking and maternal mortality.

Sam sees no conflict in “intellectual honesty” and the alleviation of human suffering.

To alleviate human suffering must we respect patently false beliefs? Is intellectual honesty a luxury best left for the future?

BTW, I’m happy to be on the front lines of twitter reporting for all my readers.

I'm actually kind of disappointed. I know Twitter's supposedly a great resource and everything, but two people arguing over Twitter always feels really juvenile to me.

Well it's not even that great of a resource… unless you're iranian or live in some censorship heavy state. Basically I was just interested in Sam's book update tweets. But I'm happy to see him continue to call out sloppy thinking even in silly medium like twitter.
